The Toughest 10 K

 September 17, 2023

Weight:152.9  Sleep 5 hours.....not enough.

Had a good relaxing day yesterday.  Went for a walk and just took it easy watching football.  Really nervous about the 10 K.  Only ran 3 times in the last month.  Least my nutrition has been  on point this week.

Got up at dark thirty today.  Ughhh...what was I thinking.  Tried not to overthink it.

Got down to Keemah about six am.  Race started and hung with my running buddy who has been training

for a full marathon for the first mile.  We got to the gianormous bridge and halfway up decided I shouldn't

kill myself trying to keep up with her..  I walked and ran the rest of it.  When you are on an out-and-back

course, you really have no options but to finsih or call an uber which couldn't get through all the road closures.I accepted that I was not 25 anymore and just took my time.  I had two hours and could walk the entire course if I had to.  I enjoy the pretty view of the ocean, but that bridge was brutal.  There is a reason why it is called the toughest 10K.  It was cool seeing all shapes, sizes, ages, and fitness levels out there.  Running is a very personal sport.  It is really you doing you.  My goal was just to finish before they closed the course.  I did way better than I thought.  I finished in 1 hour and 25 minutes.  13:12 pace per mile.  Very proud of myself.

They had all sorts of  of temptations at the after party. Free pizza, ice cream.  I opted for a banana and some orange slices.  It  felt great to make healthy choices.  I can tell that the lighter I get the better I feel and the better my running will become.

I really need to work on my sleep now.  Five to seven hours isn't enough.  Or is it?  Asking for a friend.

  1. I wish you slept more. I do not know how you did a 10k.
I walked yesterday 2 miles. Had 1 meal. The tasty fried mushrooms. Walked 2 miles this morning. Up 1lb! I will up my liquids & walk again this afternoon. No more 1 fried veggie meal. Poor choice.
